Udaipur Palace Part 2

The city palace , a Wonderland.

This is part 2 of the Udaipur palace.Read Part 1 here

The palace has huge rooms converted into galleries depicting the life history of Mewar kings. Paintings depicting the life of Rana Pratap the valiant ruler; and his horse Chetak who painted the history of Mewar in golden letters are  certainly awe inspiring.  The  articles and artefacts used by the royal clan are also on display and that reflects the customs, culture and values they nurtured ages  ago.

The flooring of the palace and walls are made of rich designs in marble . The wide windows adorned with colurful stained glass  makes the palace an ethereal beauty. The tall ceilings and well arched  windows  makes the interiors brighter with natural light and at the same time gives a panoramic view of the surroundings.

Exquisite craftsmanship is seen in every inch of the palace be it on wood, metal or on marble and a building as old as 500 years old stands tall as if touching the skyline on the banks of lake Pichola . It is real feast to the eyes.

There’s lot to see, lot to feel happy about.

More to follow.

Enjoy the pictures.

City Palace,Udaipur part 1

Udaipur is a beautiful city and  capital of Mewar . The city was built over a period of 400 years, its mansions, forts , Palaces remain a great tourist attraction even today. The princely state is so attractive with its beautiful gardens, lakes and Forts and palaces. To make this as a well planned aesthetically attractive city the work was started by Maharana Udai Singh in 1553  . It is no wonder that this is one among the  great tourist attraction in Rajasthan.

Hall of Heroes- Udaipur Museum

If anyone is interested in seeing history of Mewar please move slowly through the beautiful gallery which is very close to the Rana Pratap Memorial .  Life size paintings of great heroes adorn the walls . It gives an insight into the life of these great heroes which will make the  hearts  swell with pride.

The gallery was  quiet as there was no crowd which helped me to click a few pictures of the  brave hearts  and courageous heroes.

Maha Rana Pratap and Chetak have created history and their names are well etched in the history of Mewar.  Chetak, was the amazing valorous horse who helped Maharana Pratap from the  battle of Haldighati, The horse ran for about 2 -3 miles carrying his wounded master and jumped a 21 feet wide river with its wounded legs and saw that its master was safe before dropping dead.  It is not surprising to see a memorial built to this great horse.

Till date, people of Mewar take pride of Chetak’s marvellous escape from battle grounds and they get really get excited while narrating stories about this great horse.

I have made an attempt to bring Chetak’s memorial and Rana Pratap’s memorial in the same post as it would be easy to keep track of these two while visiting the city.

The Chetak memorial is situated a few Kms from Haldighati,( nearly 40Kms from city of Udaipur) is a mountain pass in the Aravalli range of Rajasthan where battle  was fought between Maharana Pratap and Mughal emperor Akbar’s forces.

Rana Pratap memorial is situated on a small hillock in the city of Udaipur overlooking the Fateh sagar Lake .This has a beautiful garden fully surrounded with sandalwood trees . There is a museum also which depicts the history of Mewar ( will post pictures in my next post.

There is a  life size bronze statue of Maharana Pratap riding his dear Chetak.

The Panoramic view of Udaipur is breath taking.

I have included a few pictures captured during my tour.
