A Coracle Ride

Have you traveled in Coracles?

Here are few from my coracle ride , when I visited T. Narsingpur near Mysore, in Karnataka.

Coracle appears like a huge, wide shallow pan made of iron sheet and it functions like a boat. About 10-12 people can comfortably travel in this. One has to sit on the sloping frame of the coracle, we too sat down comfortably  on the cool metal sheet of the coracle and had a pleasant gliding experience .The trip was up to the confluence of 3 rivers Kaveri, Kabini and Spatika.

Confluence of these holy rivers is considered to be very sacred and many pilgrims converge here once in 3 years for  a holy dip.

have a look at my pictures.

Do you know Danish people visited India for trade?

They were also allowed to build a fort to  take care of themselves by the the king of Tanjore.

Taragambadi , earlier known as Tranquebar is a heritage town in Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu.

Taragambadi means a place of singing waves, right in every sense as this is a coastal town.

This fort and the town they  occupied   is   steeped in history .This town  has ancient churches, Danish fort known as Dansborg which they built right on the beach; now converted to a museum,a few monuments and beautiful age old buildings which transports us to a different era.

This is also known as India’s only Ozone rich beach.

This lies 13 kms North of Karaikal and about 5 -5 1/2 hours drive from Chennai.

Here are a few pictures I captured which I visited recently.

Pichavaram Mangrove Forest

230 Kilometers from Chennai is Pichavaram Mangrove forest where one can enjoy rides while moving through the mangroves.

It takes about 5 – 5  1/2 hours by east coast road to reach this place.

The vast area spreads around 35000 Kms. and one can take walk in some  areas of mangroves.

Motor boats as well as row boats are here .

the fee for ride depends on the time one wants to spend here on the boat ride.

Enjoy a few pictures.
