I was away for a few days for work and could not read any posts of my friends and same reason for not writing anything in my space. Today a little bit relaxed, I thought, I would add something here.
On a recent trip to Kalpathy, I saw a conventional water boiler which was used as a coffee maker. The owner of the coffee shop allowed me to shoot the contraption.
When I was young we had a bigger version of this and was used for heating water for bathing purposes. The fuel used was coal and this has become an antique piece when the electrical heater made an entry into our house.
I was also surprised to see this boiler working with the help of a gas stove. Changing times, unavailability and skyrocketing price of coal made this boiler adapt to the new system.
People learn to adapt and improvise things according to varying circumstances.
Yes, I remember these old boilers used to work well.I do not think these would be made these days.
Wow that looks goood .. and still working Excellent 🙂
so how was ur trip …
nice photo
our village people use this today also.
with times it changed
KP, These things are made even today as most of the coffee-tea shops use this. The prices would have gone up as it is made of copper. This is not exactly the old type water heater. It is in a new avatar with many holes on top to heat milk and keep the decoction hot.
Bikram, thanks, the trip was great, really enjoyed it.
even we also used to see this type of boiled for heating water for bath at our place earlier in my childhood:)
Thanks for the comment Renu.
Hm..me being a mangalorean ,have come across these boilers ..good that you found one for the blog!nice:)
Thanks Raji, Every tea shop even these days in rural areas use this. Copper gets hot faster and may be more fuel efficient.
Hi Chitra,
Yes, finally I found time to post regarding my trip to Orissa. Thank you so much for your comments. On second thought I removed the slide show as it did not come the way I expected it. May be i will create another slide show in Picasa and post later.
Conventional boiler is such a pretty thing and it has become a rarity these days. I am looking for a small one which I could keep in my drawing room! I like this blog of yours.
Gopalan,Thanks for finding your way here. I am going to recommend your blog to a friend of mine who is interested in photography. But yours is unique in the sense that it brings out the best with out losing out the focus. Keep blogging and hope you find a cute little boiler.
It is so interesting. I think I have also seen it somewhere in my childhood.
It is becoming a rarity. It has vanished from big cities kiran.
